Rosemary with Austin

ICA member Rosemary Gambino of Rose Hill Ranch in Pattison, congratulates Austin Joyce of Pearland for winning the Texas Beef Leaders of Tomorrow contest held recently in College Station. Rosemary chairs the scholarship competition, which is hosted by the Texas Cattle Women, for 17- to 20-year-olds. Events include a media interview about beef, consumer promotion, an essay and a classroom presentation. As the high-point winner, Austin will make several appearances to promote beef and also is eligible to compete in the National Beef Ambassador competition in Rapid City, SD, in October. Austin entered Texas A&M University this fall and is pursuing a degree in agri-business. 2010-2011 Officers for ICA

Delegates  for the Independent Cattlemen's Association (ICA) of Texas re-elected association's slate of officers during the ICA annual convention held recently in College Station.    The ICA 2010-2011 executive committee includes (from left) A. L. "Windy" Miller of Poteet, secretary; Phil Sadler of Alba, first vice president; Rosalee Coleman of George West, president; Robert Bruner of Huntsville, second vice president; Curtis Calhoun of Cedar Park, treasurer; and Richard Hodge of Pledger, member-at-large.   Also serving on the executive committee (not shown) are Peanut Gilfillian of Stowell, immediate past president, and Verlin Callahan of Cedar Creek, member-at-large.
A. L. "Windy" Miller and his wife, Laurie, won the grand prize at the ICA drawdown during convention --a 2009 Club Car RT950, complete with a trailer to pull the 4 x 4 vehicle.  Always a sell out, the drawdown fundraiser helps support the ICA state headquarters in Lockhart.

  

Fresh from the hopper!

During the recent ICA convention drawdown, James Riley of Beaumont shuffled balls that matched individually numbered drawdown tickets purchased by ICA members and friends.  For every 25th ball spit from the hopper,  prizes donated ICA chapters and businesses were awarded and included $100 gift cards, western-style patio furniture, a custom-made fire pit, and cattle feed, in addition to the grand prize-- a 2009 Club Car RT950, complete with a trailer to pull the 4 x 4 vehicle. 

     
La Grange Rancher Awarded Prestigious Trailblazer Award from Cattle Association

Rosalee Coleman of George West, president of the Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas (ICA), presents Bruce Dopslauf of La Grange with the 2010 Trailblazer Award at the recent ICA convention in College Station.  Dopslauf was nominated by the Colorado Valley ICA Chapter to receive the award, which recognizes selfless and tireless service to the cattle industry.  Dopslauf has held nearly every local and state office for the cattle association, including the state presidency.  In addition to managing his cattle operation, he is active in the Fayette County Junior Livestock Show, and the commercial heifer and beef cattle shows at the Fayette County Fair.  Dopslauf recently was selected to serve on the Texas Beef Council and on the on the National Cattleman’s Beef Board, jobs which he undertook with his usual high level of commitment.   

Pair honored for selfless service to cattle association:

Veterinarian T. R. Lansford (left) of Lockhart, and Karen Bell (right) of Luling, are presented 2010 Trailblazer Awards by Rosalee Coleman of George West, president of the Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas (ICA).  The Mid-Tex ICA Chapter--comprised of ICA members in Travis, Hays, Caldwell and Bastrop counties-- nominated the Lansford and Bell for the prestigious award, presented at the recent ICA convention in College Station, to recognize the pair's efforts to build a viable local ICA chapter for cow-calf producers.  Dr. Lansford is vice president and Bell serves as the secretary of the Mid-Tex Chapter, which holds meetings quarterly with educational speakers, a meal and fellowship.  Visitors are welcome. Floresville Rancher Awarded Prestigious Trailblazer Award from Cattle Association

Brad Cotton of Floresville receives the Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas (ICA) Trailblazer Award from Rosalee Coleman, association president, at the recent ICA convention in College Station.  Cotton,  a cow/calf rancher and owner of Lube Works, was nominated for the prestigious service award by the South Central ICA Chapter, comprised of members from Wilson, Atascosa, Bexar and Karnes counties.  Cotton is vice president and a director of the South Central ICA Chapter and has been a driving force behind the chapter's activities and growth.

 

Stuart and Susan Horn of China Receive Cattle Association Award

Stuart and Susan Horn of China are presented the Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas (ICA) Trailblazer Award by Rosalee Coleman, association president, at the recent ICA convention in College Station.  The Horns, who produce registered Angus cattle and operate the Horn Auction Company, were nominated for the prestigious service award by the Southeast ICA Chapter (SETICA), comprised of members from Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Jefferson, Liberty and Orange counties.  Stuart serves as an SETICA director, and the couple has chaired many chapter events, committees and meetings and are a driving force behind the association's activities and growth.
